Facilities

The College of Veterinary Medicine's facilities, from the VME to UVDL to South Farm and the Caine Dairy, reflect the breadth of veterinary medicine in Utah: small animal, large animal, production, diagnostic, research, and public health. They support providing our students with experience across all of these environments throughout their program.

Thomas & Patricia Willis Veterinary Medical Education Building (VME)

Opened in August 2026, the 3-story, 106,000-square-foot building houses student services support, classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, a surgery suite, small-animal resident care facilities, and office space for administrators, faculty, staff, and graduate students.

The Veterinary Science and Biology Building

Veterinary Science and Biology Building (VSB)

The Veterinary Sciences and Biology Building has a recently renovated anatomy lab and dedicated lecture hall, microbiology laboratories used by the parasitology, toxicology, and virology programs, and an electron microscope facility. The facility also contains four fully-equipped microbiology laboratories (including BSL-3 facilities), a cell culture laboratory, a drug preparation laboratory, and a glassware sterilization/preparation room.

The Matthew Hillyard Animal, Teaching and Research Center

Matthew Hillyard Animal, Teaching and Research Center (South Farm)

The Matthew Hillyard Animal, Teaching and Research Center, part of the Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences South Farm Complex, has facilities for housing and working with equine, dairy, beef, sheep, and swine. The building includes a classroom, offices, and several animal physiology and reproduction labs. There is also a suite of veterinary medicine facilities, including lab, surgery, recovery, and animal holding areas. The building's north wing houses an additional classroom, a USDA-inspected meat lab, refrigeration rooms, and office space.

Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory

Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UVDL)

The Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory assists in diagnosing diseases of livestock, wildlife, and companion animals. The main laboratory in Logan and its satellite facility in Nephi are on the front lines of biosecurity in the state and intermountain region, diagnosing ailments such as West Nile virus, chronic wasting disease, hantavirus, and Exotic Newcastle disease that may spread among animals and sometimes into human populations. The laboratory works closely with veterinarians, regulatory agencies, public health agencies, laboratory animal caretakers, animal research units, and animal owners.

Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory

Poisonous Plant Research Laboratory (PPRL)

A USDA Agricultural Research Service facility located on the USU Logan campus. PPRL conducts nationally recognized research on toxic plants affecting livestock, wildlife, and companion animals. CVM students may engage with the laboratory through research experiences, collaborative projects, and applied toxicology relevant to Utah's rangeland and livestock industries. The CVM leases space on the PPRL campus for large animal labs.

Caine Dairy

Caine Dairy

A state-of-the-art dairy teaching and research facility that supports instruction in dairy production medicine, herd health management, reproduction, nutrition, and biosecurity within a commercial-scale dairy operation. The Caine Dairy provides students with practical exposure to the realities of dairy practice.
