Advising & Peer Tutoring

Faculty advising and peer tutoring through the PASS program are provided to support students in their academic and career development.

Faculty Advising

Academic Advising

CVM instructors' office hours vary by instructor and can be found in the course syllabus or on the instructor's contact page. CVM instructors typically hold in-person or online office hours to provide students with additional support and opportunities to ask questions and discuss course material. Students should seek out additional resources and collectively attempt to understand topics that are unclear or difficult in nature to understand. If the material and concepts are still unclear, seek out additional support from faculty instructors. The course syllabus is the first place to check for information about office hours, including the time, location, and whether they are in-person or online.

Career Advising

Two faculty members will be assigned to provide career counseling and coaching.

Peer Academic Support & Success (PASS) Program

The PASS program is a peer tutoring program designed to enhance student academic success and foster a collaborative learning environment while promoting leadership and teaching skills among upperclassmen in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at Utah State University.

Program Objectives

  • Academic Support: Provide structured, consistent academic support for CVM students “considered at risk of failing course(s)” by having “course assessment scores averaged below 73% halfway into the semester.” (Academic Standards Policies and Procedures, Mid-Semester Check-in and Early Intervention Program, pg. 4)
  • Peer Mentorship: Create peer connections that foster academic resilience, emotional well-being, and a sense of belonging.
  • Leadership Development: Offer upperclassmen the opportunity to develop skills in leadership, teaching, and communication.
  • Access and Support: Ensure all students have access to supplemental academic support, regardless of background or prior experience.

Tutoring Format

  • 1-on-1 Tutoring: Students may request individualized help through an online request form.
  • Group Sessions: Weekly or bi-weekly sessions for high-demand courses. Focused on concept review, exam prep, and study strategies.
  • Online Support: Asynchronous support via Discord or Canvas discussion board moderated by tutors.
