Helpful information for when you apply

  • Prerequisite Coursework: Ensure that you will have completed all prerequisite coursework (physical and biological science requirements and general education requirements) with a grade of C- or better by July 1 of the year of matriculation. Visit General Admission Requirements for a complete list of our prerequisite coursework.
  • AAMC PREview® Exam: The AAMC PREview® Exam is now a required component of the USU DVM application process. This exam is separate from your VMCAS application. For more information, please visit General Admission Requirements.
  • Residency: The Office of Veterinary Admissions uses the “Legal State of Residence” in the Citizenship Information section of the VMCAS application as your official state of residence. If you marked "Utah” as your “Legal State of Residence” and/or if claiming Utah residency for tuition purposes, you must complete the residency form and email the completed form and supporting documentation to the residency officers in the USU Admissions Office. They must verify your Utah residency (or exemption) for you to be considered in the Utah applicant pool.
    • Residency certification is due (all required documentation must be submitted to the USU Residency Office) by September 15.
    • To determine if you may be eligible to apply for Utah residency for tuition purposes, including military exemptions, please visit the Utah State University Residency Information page.
  • Completion of our supplemental application is required before the VMCAS application closes on September 15.
  • Nevada Resident Applicants: If you are a resident of Nevada, you may be eligible for reduced tuition through the Nevada WICHE/Utah State University College of Veterinary Medicine Health Professional Education Program (HPEP) Stipend. Be sure to verify your eligibility with the Nevada Office of WICHE.
  • Foreign Transcripts: If you have attended institutions outside the U.S. (including French-Canadian institutions), ensure your transcripts are properly evaluated. Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) and submitted to VMCAS. A course-by-course evaluation is required. VMCAS does not require a WES from English-speaking Canadian institutions.
