Deans Executive Leadership Council

In collaboration with the dean, provide both short-term (day-to-day) and long- term oversight and direction to all CVM activities related to teaching, research, and extension/outreach.

Admission Development, Coordination, and Evaluation Committee

Design and develop all aspects of the admissions process, including advertising and recruiting, application criteria and procedures, and applicant selection.

  2. Responsibilities
    1. Present recommendations to the Dean’s Executive Leadership Council for the following:
      1. How to attract and identify best-fit applicants for the CVM program
      2. Making the admissions process more transparent and equitable
      3. Incorporating holistic elements to the review and selection processes
      4. Identifying ways to scale and introduce flexibility and effectiveness into our admissions processes to meet current and future needs while minimizing budget impact
      5. Enhancing diversity through strategic, targeted, and well-designed initiatives

Affiliated Veterinary Instructional Partner (AVIP) Approval Committee

Create eligibility criteria for prospective AVIPs; and review AVIP applications to determine which AVIPs will be approved to host students. In addition, the committee will annually review the status of each AVIP, and address any concerns brought forward about an AVIP (e.g., student feedback, etc.).

Committee and Student Club Governance Committee

Monitor the status of all CVM committees (vacancies, etc.); and assist student clubs with their organization and governance.

Curriculum Committee

Create and implement a curriculum that trains thriving day-one veterinarians who have the professional, foundational, and applied competencies to serve urban and rural communities in the state of Utah and beyond. This committee will determine the curriculum content of the DVM degree program.

Faculty-Staff-Student Wellness and Relations Committee

Develop initiatives and provide recommendations to foster mental, physical, and emotional well-being among faculty, staff, and students; promote community building; enhance communication channels among faculty, staff, and students to ensure transparency and effective dissemination of information.

    1. Promote communication and interaction among students, faculty, staff, and administrators

    4. Promote a culture of physical, psychological, and emotional well-being for employees by providing activities and support that
      will result in healthier lifestyles

Inclusive Excellence Committee

Develop and foster initiatives that promote a culture and environment where all individuals are welcomed and fully supported in their pursuit of professional and personal achievement and fulfillment within the CVM, the broader USU community, and beyond.

Dean’s Advisory Board

Assist and advise the dean and CVM development staff regarding curriculum development, continuing education, and advancement efforts for and on behalf of the CVM.

    1. Assist with fundraising efforts of the college

    3. Provide input to ensure alignment between the CVM and affiliated industries College of Veterinary Medicine

Research and Graduate Program Committee

Provide guidance on issues related to research at the college and department level, such as needs for, and status of, shared research equipment, etc. Working with the associate dean for research, review applications and admit applicants into the graduate program; allocate and assign stipends to graduate students; and manage the graduate degree curriculum.

Safety Committee

Ensure that all college and departmental requirements and expectations for fulfilling USU Policy 3014 Safety and Health are met.

  2. Responsibilities
    1. Ensure awareness and implementation of USU Policy 3014: Safety and Health
    2. Bring attention to any safety concerns within the college and associated facilities, and make CVM administration aware of any shortcomings
    3. The committee chair, or designee, will represent the CVM on the University Safety Committee

Selection Committee

Review all application materials and make recommendations to the dean of those applicants to be admitted into each cohort of veterinary students.

Scholarship and Awards Committee

Review all scholarship applications and select a recipient(s) for each available scholarship as well as solicit and review all college award nominations and select recipients for each award category.

Student Progress Committee

Monitor, assess and evaluate student academic and professional development; provide feedback, support and guidance to students; perform decision-making on academic standing; and promote academic integrity, ethics and professionalism.

    1. Following unsuccessful remediation, review and assist in addressing students’ academic deficiencies
    2. Provide recommendations to the associate dean for academic programs regarding continuation in the DVM degree program

Veterinary Continuing Education Committee

Develop and conduct an annual veterinary continuing education conference in partnership with the Utah Veterinary Medical Association.

Veterinary Student Research Committee

Develop opportunities for both undergraduate and veterinary student involvement in research; and solicit student applications for CVM-sponsored research opportunities, review the applications, and make recommendations to the associate dean for research of which students to accept into the program.
